Treatment with poise, structure and depth.

Our ‘BALANCE BY PONTEM’ therapeutic approach is a central component of the therapeutic work at PONTEM Medic. It combines professional expertise, a clear therapeutic focus and a deep understanding of how mental and psychosomatic symptoms arise, how they affect you, and how they can be addressed. This creates a treatment framework that does not reduce you to individual symptoms, but takes you seriously as a person with your own history, your challenges and your potential for growth.

Why develop our own therapeutic approach?

Psychosomatic symptoms are generally complex. Emotional stress, genetic predispositions, destructive relationship dynamics, psychosocial stressors and physical symptoms are often closely intertwined. This is why a holistic therapeutic approach is needed – one that takes all these levels into account and makes them accessible to those affected in a single location.

This is precisely what BALANCE BY PONTEM is: a clearly structured framework, developed over decades, within which symptoms are understood, categorised and addressed through individualised therapeutic support.

The approach was developed over several decades by the psychologist Horst Stahl – drawing on numerous patients’ life stories, careful observations of nature, and philosophical, psychological and spiritual reflections. This gradually gave rise to therapeutic methods that are both simple and effective.

One of the methods developed by Horst Stahl is the ‘Middle Way Therapy’, also known as the ‘Space of the Centre’. This refers to a person’s inner centre – a space of peace, tranquillity and balance, which can be seen as a source of stability and self-efficacy.

Gustav Theodor Fechner, founder of the world’s first Institute of Psychology (Leipzig, 1859), had already explored the ‘centre’ as a point of reference between the body and the mind. The inner centre can also be understood as a point of reference anchored in the architecture of our brain – a topic to which modern neurophysiology and biophysics are increasingly turning their attention.

No. The concept of the Middle Way is also found in philosophical and spiritual traditions, such as Tibetan Buddhism. As a therapeutic principle, it describes the ability to strike a balance between opposing extremes – a foundation for constructive solutions and a more respectful way of interacting with one another.

Isomorphism describes the assumption that the same fundamental patterns can be found in nature as well as in biological, psychological and social systems. balance by PONTEM draws on this perspective to understand the interconnections between the body, the mind, relationships, the environment and spirituality as expressions of shared principles of order – enabling symptoms to be recognised as part of a broader pattern and understood holistically.

A holistic view of human nature

Treatment that views the person as a whole

The therapeutic work at PONTEM Medic AG is based on a holistic view of the human being. The focus is not solely on treating individual symptoms, but on understanding the person in their physical, psychological, social, biographical and spiritual entirety.

Ailments are viewed as an expression of a complex interplay of various factors – diagnosis and treatment are therefore always tailored individually to the life circumstances and personal resources of those affected.

Resources as a starting point

A central guiding principle of our therapeutic approach is the belief that every person possesses individual resources and potential for development that can support health and recovery. Therapeutic support is therefore not about prescribing ready-made solutions, but rather a shared process in which existing abilities, mechanisms of self-efficacy and mental strengths are recognised and utilised.

Our guiding principle

Everything needed for development and healing is already present within the individual – the therapeutic task is to facilitate access to these resources and to support the individual on their unique journey towards them.

The basic principles of the ‘BALANCE BY PONTEM’ therapeutic approach

The fundamental principles of BALANCE BY PONTEM describe the therapeutic approach on which the entire treatment programme is based. They form the framework within which the therapeutic process – Perceiving. Understanding. Changing. – is tailored to the individual.

1

Mindfulness

Mindfulness forms the foundation of every therapeutic encounter. By consciously and non-judgmentally perceiving physical sensations, thoughts, feelings and behavioural patterns, people create the basis for understanding themselves better and consciously shaping processes of change.

2

Individuality

Every person has a unique biography, personality and life situation. Symptoms are therefore not treated according to a standardised model, but understood within the individual context. Diagnostics and therapy are guided by each person’s individual needs, possibilities and goals.

3

Inner Balance and Self-Efficacy

Inner balance describes a state of calm, stability and connection with oneself. From this experience, self-efficacy and resilience can develop, empowering people to actively shape their own path of development and recovery. Therapeutic support facilitates this process by strengthening access to one’s inner centre, enabling more conscious decisions and new possibilities for action.

4

Safety and Resource Orientation

A trusting therapeutic relationship creates a protected space in which openness and personal development can take place. The focus is deliberately placed on the abilities, strengths and potential for development that are already present. The aim is to activate these resources and strengthen self-regulation in a sustainable way.

5

Connection to Everyday Life and Nature

Our therapeutic methods are grounded in everyday experiences and incorporate insights from nature as a source of orientation, regulation and development. The aim is to make processes of change understandable, practical and sustainable, so they can be integrated into daily life over the long term.

6

Sustainability and Aftercare

Sustainable therapy means supporting change over the long term, for example through home visits by our specially trained psychologist and through the use of modern communication tools such as an app in everyday life. Therapeutic support therefore does not end when treatment is completed. Individual aftercare concepts and continuous support help stabilise progress and strengthen personal responsibility over the long term.

The “balance by pontem” therapeutic approach

What conditions is it helpful for?

This approach can provide guidance for a range of mental and psychosomatic conditions. It is important to note that this approach is not a substitute for a hasty diagnosis. Rather, it helps to understand symptoms within their personal context and to interpret them collaboratively as part of the therapeutic process.

For example, our approach provides guidance for the following conditions as listed in the WHO’s ICD-10 catalogue:

Anxiety disorders (F41.1)
Adjustment disorders (F43.2)
Burnout (Z73.0)
Depressive disorders (F32.0 / F32.1)
Exhaustion syndromes (F43.2)
Bullying
Psychosomatic disorders (F45.0)
Somatoform disorders (F45.9)
Stress-related disorders (F43.0)
Stress-related disorders (F43)
Trauma / PTSD (F43.1)

Treatment with poise, structure and depth

Our therapeutic approach, ‘BALANCE BY PONTEM’, is a central component of the therapeutic work carried out at PONTEM Medic AG. It combines professional expertise, a clear therapeutic focus and a deep understanding of how mental and psychosomatic symptoms arise, how they manifest themselves and how they can be addressed. This creates a treatment framework that does not reduce the individual to a set of isolated symptoms, but takes them seriously as a unique person with their own history, challenges and potential for growth.

An approach that stands on its own

A key principle at PONTEM Medic AG is not to make the quality of care dependent on individual staff members. The ‘BALANCE BY PONTEM’ therapeutic approach establishes a shared, professional foundation for this. It provides guidance for teams, ensures that treatment is transparent, and supports consistent care across different sites.

This is particularly important because PONTEM Medic AG is growing as a group of clinics. Patients, relatives, referring doctors and payers should be able to trust that treatment is not haphazard, but is based on a clear therapeutic approach and a shared understanding.

Your Next Step

Be safe whilst being open

The ‘BALANCE BY PONTEM’ therapeutic approach is based on a form of treatment in which openness is made possible by a sense of security. Individuals are free to talk about the pressures they face without having to explain or justify themselves. At the same time, the therapeutic support ensures that the individual is not left alone, but instead receives guidance, support and a path towards personal growth.
