Questions we are often asked

Many questions arise before starting psychosomatic treatment. That’s understandable. You may want to know whether PONTEM Medic is the right place for you, how the admission process works, who covers the costs, or what to expect during and after treatment. Here you’ll find some initial answers to help guide you. For anything else, we’re here to help you personally.

Treatment

You can contact PONTEM Medic if you are struggling with mental health or psychosomatic issues and would like therapeutic support. These include, for example, exhaustion, burnout, depression, anxiety, restlessness, functional physical symptoms or crises. You don’t need to be able to describe your situation in detail just yet. The initial consultation is designed to help us work out together whether treatment with us might be suitable.

No. Many guests get in touch because they feel they need support, but don’t yet know exactly what is causing their symptoms. We don’t make hasty diagnoses; instead, we work with you to look at your current stress levels, your symptoms and your personal situation.

Psychosomatic treatment considers the body and mind as a whole. This is because emotional stress can manifest physically, and physical symptoms can, in turn, cause psychological distress. At PONTEM Medic, the aim is to gain a better understanding of these connections and to develop approaches that will stabilise and strengthen you.

Typical issues include burnout, depression, anxiety disorders, psychosomatic symptoms, functional physical symptoms, exhaustion, inner restlessness, crises or self-esteem issues. If you’re unsure whether your issues are suitable for the treatment we offer, you’re still welcome to get in touch without any obligation.

The exact process depends on your situation and your treatment needs. Generally speaking, the process begins with you getting in touch, assessing your situation together and sorting out any organisational matters. During the treatment itself, you will be provided with a therapeutic framework that takes a holistic view of your body, mind and life circumstances.

The ‘BALANCE BY PONTEM’ therapeutic approach

The ‘BALANCE BY PONTEM’ therapeutic approach forms a central pillar of the therapeutic work carried out at PONTEM Medic. It helps to ensure that mental and psychosomatic symptoms are not viewed in isolation, but are understood in the context of a person’s personal circumstances, inner patterns and individual sources of stress.

The approach was not put together as a general programme, but was developed on the basis of therapeutic experience. At its heart is a clear understanding of how symptoms arise, how they affect you, and how they can be addressed. The aim is a form of treatment that does not reduce you to your symptoms, but takes you seriously as a person with your own story.

No. You don’t need to be familiar with the ‘balance by pontem’ therapeutic approach before you come to PONTEM Medic. The important thing is that you feel your symptoms are being taken seriously. Anything relevant to your treatment will be explained to you in a way you can understand.

Aftercare

Aftercare means that support does not simply end upon discharge. The transition back to everyday life, work, family and relationships can be challenging. That is why aftercare helps to consolidate what has been achieved and build new stability in everyday life.

At PONTEM Medic, we believe that aftercare does not begin only after your stay. Even whilst you are undergoing treatment, we consider what you will need for the time afterwards. This allows us to better prepare you for the transition.

Difficult days or setbacks do not mean that all is lost. Change rarely follows a straight path. It is important to recognise the signs of distress early on, to seek support, and to build on what has been achieved during treatment.

Admission process

You can get in touch with PONTEM Medic via the contact form, by telephone or via the designated digital contact channel. Your enquiry will be treated confidentially and answered personally.

Following your enquiry, a member of the PONTEM Medic team will contact you personally. Together, you’ll go through some initial questions: What is currently causing you concern? What sort of support are you looking for? Do you already have any documentation? And what would be the best next step?

That depends on your situation and your health insurance provider. Medical reports, previous reports, a referral, insurance documents or confirmation of coverage may be important. We’ll discuss with you which documents are actually required.

That depends on availability, location, your personal circumstances and the cost breakdown. When you get in touch with PONTEM Medic, you’ll receive a realistic assessment of the next steps.

You can let us know your preferred location. Whether Darmstadt or Hallau is suitable depends on the range of treatments available, availability, organisational considerations and your individual circumstances.

Coverage of costs

Whether the costs are covered depends on your insurance, your personal circumstances and the planned stay. Depending on the circumstances, private health insurance, a health allowance, out-of-pocket payment or other funding bodies may be applicable.

Yes. PONTEM Medic helps you to assess your options and work out the next steps. The documents or evidence required will depend on the relevant funding body.

No. The decision on whether to cover the costs lies with the relevant funding body. However, PONTEM Medic can help you understand the process and prepare the necessary information.

In principle, treatment may be available as a self-funded service. The specific costs, eligibility criteria and next steps should be discussed on a case-by-case basis during a personal consultation.

Relatives

Yes. Family members can get in touch if they are looking for guidance or want to understand how they can support a loved one. It is important to treat the person concerned with respect and to respect their right to self-determination.

It is often helpful to listen, take the person seriously and offer support without pressuring them. You can prepare to make contact together. If you’re unsure, you can contact PONTEM Medic to clarify any initial questions.

That depends on the individual situation and the guest’s wishes. Where appropriate, and provided the guest agrees, relatives may be involved in certain stages of the process.

Referrer

Yes. Referring practitioners such as GPs, specialists, psychotherapists, hospitals or psychosomatic outpatient clinics can contact PONTEM Medic if treatment is being considered for a patient.

It is helpful to provide information on your current condition, previous treatments, relevant test results, diagnoses, medication, insurance status and the specific issue to be addressed in treatment. We can clarify exactly which documents are required when you get in touch.

It makes sense to have a dedicated contact section for referring doctors so that technical queries, documentation and potential admissions can be dealt with quickly. PONTEM Medic should finalise the specific contact details.
